No computer experience is necessary.  Laptops with internet access and printers are provided, or you can bring your own like Mr Walmsley.  In autumn 2010, Mr Walmsley and his wife did not know how to use a computer or the internet.  Then he bought a laptop and started coming to computer classes, led by ICT Teacher (and Assistant Head), Rob Brocklebank.  Now he can’t imagine life without it!  Since coming to weekly computer classes at Fernhurst School with his wife, he now uses the internet to book holidays, browse second hand cars, look at houses for sale, view maps and saves money by shopping around and ordering online.  He recommends the class to other local people, who want to learn to use the internet.

“The class is very instructive and highly recommended.  The instructors are adaptable and cheerful.  A year on from my first class, I am now a confident computer user.  My wife and I are now regular internet shoppers and have saved money buying online.”  Mr Walmsley, Mill Hill.

Head teacher George Sinclair, and head of school governors Florence Oldfield are delighted that members of the public are benefiting from the skills and facilities that Fernhurst school has to offer, and hope to welcome more people to Monday IT classes.  Come and give us a try – no need to pre-book, just turn up.

Rob is a very good teacher, very patient and very capable in every aspect. The students are progressing slowly but surely, some don’t use the laptop when they get home, so its a case of retraining every week. At home I try to go on it as much as possible, my wife won’t sometimes let me go on the laptop and it’s very frustrating.
